i have read the lit on sexing, but still was not able to determine although idid try to have a look-
dan could you tell me what indicates them as females please

Nope that doesn't mean no fighting

Females can be just as bad as males sometimes, especially with Hermanns.
It's the outer edges of the femoral and anal scutes, the opening of the anal scutes above the tail and the size of the tail.
The cloaca is close to the body (which says female), the anal scute opening is a tight V (which says female) and the edges of the femoral and anal scutes form a straight sloping edge (which says female).

thanks again dan - after checking each indicator of gender i checked the pic of aristotle and comparing it to the pics of the male on the chelonia site, i can see quite clearly what u are saying - am popping to see plato's pic to compare again

I must just be lucky then as I have the opposit problem with a very feisty male that loves nothing mre then trying to hack at other torts legs as they go by no natter wether they belong to a girl or a boy... needless to say he spends alot of time in soletary.
