Default English Ivy and tortoises

\ Ivy is on the toxic plant list and I thought I had removed it all from the tortoise pen area but Sidney my greek found some and ate it. He ate like 3 leaves I think. My vet has no clue how this will affect him. He said to watch for diarrhea.

Anyone know the toxicity of ivy?
Here is a pic of what he ate.

Hi ?

Ivy is toxic, if it were to do any immediate poisoning it would have shown by now. Some
plants are more toxic than others, and will affect instantly. Like being fed weed killer/ant killer.
They twist and turn, foam at the mouth and eventually shut down and die
Sorry to be so graphic but thats what happens.

Hi Rach
A few leaves are probably ok it would be more toxic to the system if ingested regulary , side affects are slow and alkalides attack the liver and nerve system , its the berries that contain the most toxins but saying this wood pigoens devour them when in season , also i had a goat once that regulary ate ivy with no ill affect

Carl I used to have three goats many years ago when i was still at school.

Sandy well a dodo would be great if only but i do look after the dodo's nearest liveing relative the Victoria crowned pigeon, (yes a dodo was a huge flightless pigeon ) not got a picture handy.

I live in Oxford, and the museum here has the stuffed body of the last ever dodo. Here's a link to everything you ever wanted to know about dodos (with pics). Enjoy
