Not something I would ever think to feed my tortoises. Its not part of their normal diet. Just because its safe, does not mean its good for them:0)

Cheryl I haven't tried it but thanks for bringing it up. When tortoises are needing to be fed in winter for whatever reason there can be a lack of variety and I personally don't rule this out.

But I'd like to hear from someone that has tried it.

I do agree with Sandy that it's not a normal part of their diet but that might be said of a load of stuff that most uk keepers are serving up.

Lol I am certainly not one of them:0)
Mine get weeds and flowers. Any I have up still get the same, I always have enough for a few tortoises even in Winter.

There are no weeds here now they went with the first frost, I'm sure they don't get floret crispy salad and pellets but it's something a lot of us have to rely on. I thought that maybe they would find a related plant in the wild? I am thinking that if they have a lot of variety for the winter months all the better. Would be really interested if anyone has fed, in always looking for more variety for mine in the winter.

Here is what it says

And this is about the cardoon which I may be wrong but would say they will find in the wild?

How has this in any way answered the OPs politely asked question? your replies seem a little self-righteous.

Cardoon as well!

My neighbour has one them and it is an enormous plant in summer but it dies down to nothing in winter so no good for any winter feeding.

But perhaps we'll have a cardoon meal or two in the summer.

I sort of agree with AC with the responses point . There are people who just don't have that weed growth, or maybe have just got their tortoise. Theres no time to grow flowers, weeds and what not - and if overwintering - lets face it, its plugging the gap until a decent variety edible weeds are about (and growing in your vicinity).
The same could be said for Florette Crispy Salad, Pre Alpen Cobs, Komodo Pellets - to name just a few 'winter gap' feeds. xx
