Default My disabled budgie.

Meet Ditto. I got her from a breeder who wanted someone who could look after her as he was at work all day and didn't have time to give her the care she needed. We are not sure what her problems are but she can't fly, walk or even perch. Here she is.

She has adapted well. She climbs up a ladder, puts her head through the rungs and cleans her belly and manages to get herself into the overhanging newspaper round the side of her cage to bend round and clean her back. She seems happy and plays and chirps. We get her out regularly and I do physio and massage on her little stiff legs which she enjoys, well the massage part anyway. And boy can she bite, I have to wear a gardening glove when doing the physio or my hands would be in shreds.
Here she is having her physio.

This is what I get for my efforts.

And having a snuggle with my son, her daddy.

Hiya Wendy!!
Great to see Ditto. She can certainly move well considering her disabilities. You're doing a wonderful job putting so much time and effort into her physio. She's incredibly pretty and I bet Kian loves her to bits.

Kian thinks she's amazing and gives her loads off attention. She doesn't thank him though the bruises where she bites him prove it. She has a fearsome bite but it's her only defence so you can't blame her.

Ouch! Kian is brave to continue loving her so much when she bites him. She looks quite content in the photo where she's snuggled into his arm. She's lucky to have come to your home to be so well looked after.

That picture was probably taken seconds before she bit him. That's one of her favourite spots to bite.
Here's one she did earlier. It turned into a bruise.

Oh dear.
I'm sure she'll settle down as she becomes more able as a result of the physio.
My eldest chuckled when I mentioned this. Whenever he comes home from work with bites or scratches, it's usually from a small animal such as a cockatiel or recently huge scratches from a Chinchilla Persian cat. He reckons the Rottweilers are no problem. It's the little animals he has to be careful with!

He's absolutely right there. I'm sporting some lovely scratches from one of the guineas where I was clipping her claws earlier. To be fair, it wasn't on purpose.

How are they both doing? I remember one breaking her leg last year and you soon had her up and about again. Our squeakers are proper little porkers. They know exactly what time their fresh veg comes each day and start squeaking as soon as they hear the garden gate.

They are fine. Porkers too, love their food and squeak when they hear a bag rustle. You wouldn't know Evie ever broke her leg to look at her, the vet said she would have one leg shorter than the other but I moved the bones back in line and bandaged it, it fixed back perfectly. Jodie rescued 2 from the nursery she works at. They weren't being looked after by the colleague who brought them in so Jodie took over their care. This woman was filling their water bottle from a puddle, never gave them hay and only fed them pig food, no veg at all. The hutch they were living in was leaking and open to the elements. Instead of cleaning them out this awful woman just added straw on top of sodden rotting straw. they wouldn't sleep in the box end because it was so wet. So when winter set in and Jodie found them shivering and soaked in their own urine she took them home and so far has refused to take them back. The woman went on maternity leave so has given up asking her to bring them back. Jodie said when she emptied their water bottle one time, there were dead slugs in it. The poor things were emaciated and frightened of people. She's won them round, they now live in a cage in her kitchen and have a wonderful life. She also bought 2 more so now has 4 piggies.
