I wanted to address this but I'm waiting for some added information. The T-rex procucts are very well researched by some very kowlegable folks. If you follow the instructioins you can't go wrong. Those that put out the product are very well aware of oversupplementation and I'm sure they've covered this in the instructions.

Again, I'll have to get more info but I'll be willing to be that they are the same if not very similar products.

I want to thank you for the push... that's another point.

Nutrobal is a calcium supplement. The t-rex drops are are a supplement but they are half of the nutrobal. calcium is nothing without the vitamins. Vitamin D is one control for calcium. I'm sorry to say that it is simple but complex

Vitamin D is one control for calcium..... what are the others? If I have read it right and do they vary in their efficacy?

Phosphorous... Calcium/Phosphorous is the exact control mechanism.

Hi Mandy,

The thing about D3 is the concentration in which it is admistered. From memory I think nutrobal contains 2500 IU/kg where as T-rex drops are probably a lot more concentrated ( i dont know this but as T-rex claim it makes the use of expensive lights unnessesary and you only have to give it once a week I would imagine it's D3 content is quite high) so overdose is more llikely if you were to accidentally give more than needed. As we are quoting Andy highfield I remember him saying something along the lines of "you would have to stuff nutrbal down the neck of a tortoise to cause a D3 overdose". As nutorbal is used as a sprinkling over the food rather than direct oral application it is much safer. Hope this helps, please start using this product your tortoise could develope serious shell and bone developement problems without it.

A little better understanding always reduces the fear factor...

T-Rex is one of the better reptile products that we have available to us. I know the person who developed many if not all of their reptile products and have had many a good conversation over a good bottle of scotch (fellow scotch enthusiast) about the very issues presented here. I've asked him directly about the concerns that some use to promote fear for many products available in the pet trade.

Anyway, Check this out. It is very interesting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholecalciferol

Most, if not all, supplements use this form of vitamin D for the very reason of the possibility of overdose.

If you look through the archives under Calcium Metabolism I posted a beautiful explaination for the mechanism of use and control by the body. I was posted on the TT a few years back by a vet.

Needless to say the Solar drops are a very safe and viable alternative for calcium metabolism.
