When I was looking for dead nettle I found that there are loads of different ones including golden dead nettle which is varigated and this one 'spotted' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/76801/ which is very similar to what you have there.
BTW, anyone know if all dead nettle is safe or just certain ones? |

I believe this to be one of the garden forms of Lamium, and if so it's edible. Mine will nibble Lamiums but they are not a favourite. I grow Yellow Achangel for mine - this is a UK native Lamium that does not sting. Its a handy plant for shady and dampish places where not many tortoise foods will grow.

Lamium belongs to the Lamiaceae family which includes Mentha (mint) so does that mean mint is safe for torts as we have some in the garden? (whether they want to eat it will be another story)
This is a good site with good pics by the way http://www.robsplants.com/family.php?ceae=lamiaceae Last edited by Alan1; 28-04-2009 at 08:55 AM. |
