Egg 3 has finally made an appearance! Teddy weighs 20grams and is much shyer than number 1 who we have named Phoebe.

My kids were chuffed to bits because they actually saw him come out of his shell.

The last one is still in the egg. I had to do a bit of creative work on him because the yolk sac was being squashed out of the shell and there was a large sharp piece pressing on it. I was frightened that it would rupture on the sharp edges as the hatchling is moving around quite a bit. The egg now has a narrow cling film belt which is holding in the yolk sac but is not covering the hole above it. I don't know what others will think about this idea, but I couldn't just wait and hope that it didnt happen! Fingers crossed it stays where it is for a little longer.

Anyway, here are pics of Teddy

Here is an update on Egg 1 with its cling film belt.

I can see the face clearly now so am happy that it is up the right way.

I bet you are exhausted - this has been going on for quite a while now. I hope the little remaining hatchling absorbs the yolk sac while sat there in its egg and then makes a successful break for freedom.
Good luck and get some sleep if you can tonight.

Go get some sleep Wanda, whatever happens overnight will happen, there will not be much you can do, if it comes right out of the shell then you can deal with it in the morning but with any luck it will be a good baby and stay put for now, fingers crossed the news will be ok tomorrow Goodnight

Hope all is well this morning Wanda, a lot of interesting threads on here regarding hatchling and what people do to help them. I have thirteen eggs due to hatch while I'm away on holiday so will have my fingers crossed everything is okay, as ill be on the phone constantly to my father in-law on what to do.

Well done Wonda, congratulations and welcome to the nail biting world of hatching tortoises hopefully the last one will be very good and sit in the egg untill the sac is nearly gone. My Lulu did just that, after 2 days she got fed up and started to wriggle to get out and the sac was nearly gone , so I let her out and put her on some wet kitchen paper. Good luck.

Andy, that sounds very exciting and nerve jangling at the same time. Good luck.

Thank you all for your good wishes. ok here is this mornings update.

Well, just as I thought, this one is very determined and knows its own mind. I managed to give it a little drink from a blunt syringe before i went to bed, and lay there worrying a lot of the night just about resisting the impulse to go and check. This is what I came down to this morning......

So much for sitting quietly in the egg! I can't see the yolk sac yet and I will leave and watch before for a little while. Hopefully a lot of it has absorbed.

Phoebe has been set free. She is enjoying exploring and stumping round her cage. She is such a character and very brave.

Teddy, is asleep in the incubator but is doing well. I haven't disturbed him to take a photo. He has no yolk sac left at all but his plastron just needs to close a little more. He will probably join Phoebe later on so I will post a pic later on.

Right, back to peering in the incubator lid ...........
