Fantastic photo.
What does the vet recommend? Is the tortoise showing any distress? Is the tortoise eating, passing feces and urates? If everything is normal... I would treat it normally unless things change in the slightest bit. I would keep the temperatures on the upper edge of the tortoise comfort zone and provide as many nesting options as possible. Does the tortoise have a place where it can 'hide' the eggs? Indoors I use shredded newspaper that is loosely balled up to form a 'bush'. Surgery or any unnecessary intervention runs a very high possible risk of preventing any future reproduction. I would also hold off on the vet visit considering it already passed the one egg. Remember to keep the temperatures up. I've had Egyptians pass broken eggs. As long as there is no blood associated with the passing egg material the tortoise should be watched but I don't think any action is necessary. Quote:

At least she passed it without any intervention. That's a good thing.

You have to realize it could have been so much worse in so many different ways. Greatfully, there is always next season or even later in the spring and summer.
When's Easter?

After reading your thread, if I had been through that, I would be feeling really pleased that the outcome was as good as it was, the tortoise has passed the eggs without the need for any medical intervention, to be honest I am surprised with the size of them compared to her, yes the eggs broke, but you still have a healthy tortoise to be thankful for.
Put it behind you now and enjoy Easter. |
