Thanks for putting that up. I've got loads of it in my garden and didn't think they could eat it. Will make life a bit easier if that's the case.

Great thread.

Am i right in thinking we give only leaves and flowers (certain types) to our torts and NOT stems?

For example with a dandilion, do i pop the flower off?

HI
Ive just recently become the owner of a leopard tortoise and obviously want to given the best care possible. I have done alot of reading and am getting a bit of conflicting advice about feeding him. In your opinion what should i feed my tortoise and what should i definately not feed him. I know that lettuce is a no-no as is lots of wet kitchen food. Can you please help
Many Thanks
Wendy

To be honest I know nothing about non meds but lettuce isnt exactly a no no (for meds) just certain types are better, eg little gem & romaine. Iceberg is a definite no for all breeds I think. I 50% at least weed feed, but also do use raw/grated broccoli, courgette, sprouts, spring greens, butternut squash, (only once a week for the veg) radicchio, lambs lettuce I think is as good as feeding weeds, as is rocket (but high in oxyalic acid like dandelions)
I have fed the ocasional piece of cooked carrot to my Horsfields (not sure if that's bad though), also tomato without skin and seeds, cucumber without peel, but more and more I'm managing to go to weeds-its also so much cheaper! Even my 6 month old hatchlings would get through an entire lettuce in 2 days if allowed, so there is a cost element as well as a health one if you have lots! But this may all be completely useless for a leopard! Sorry!
