Wow hello all! Thank you for the warm welcome and the kind words of advise.
I think I may have failed to explain what I meant properly by saying the tortoise would live in the kitchen. (S)he would live in a vivarium ofcourse and inside the kitchen area we were consider cordoning off a little area so (S)he wouldn't be completely trapped in only the vivarium. But I appreciate the heads up about the smell, maybe we will see how it goes and if the smell is too much then (S)he might have to stay in the vivarium until we get home from work. From what I understand it certainly seems more practical to have a Red Foot indoors than outside because of the humidity requirements to most other toties. I look forward to reading more of the forums and speaking more with you all! And of course sharing some pictures in a month or so Robbie |

Hello all and thank you for the warm welcome!
I did reply yesterday but not sure it came though! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for the advices so far. I think I may have mis-communicated my intentions regarding allowing the red-foot to roam the kitchen. We would have an 'area' of the kitchen available as suggested above as well as a vivarium of course! However, I really appreciate your advices about the Torte's faeces! Don't want a smelly kitchen where we prepare food of course. That said, we would trial and error this and if the smell was too overpowering they might have to stay in the viv until we come home from work. Really enjoying roaming this forum and learning more!! All the best, Robbie. |

I have to confess a couple of mine do come in once in a while if they are feeling a bit poorly or it is v v horrid weather - I dangle a heat emitter from a cupboard and one wraps himself up in a towel and sits under it. - not very often but it has been known! Welcome to the forum ! CB
