Default wanting another tortoise

hi to you all and may i say what a great forum im new here my name is lou i have a marginated tortoise that i have only had for 3 months she has got mbd she is 4 years old ,and like you do i took her to the vet to be checked over when i got her only to be told that she had mbd her shell was soft underneath the vet said i should take her back to where i got her but i was afraid that she may go to somene else that wouldnt bother giving her the right treatment that she needed so she stayed here when she came to me she was in a very small viv with no uv lighting not sure how long she had been kept in these conditions but we put that right straight away she is now in a tortoise table (converted bookcase)and has improved so much in 3 months her shell has firmed up we are due to go back to the vets next week for her verdict that iv been doing things right, i was thinking about getting another 1 this time from some1 that knows what there talking about thats if the vet says everythings ok with nessie ,any advice on weather i should get male or female and what sort of age is best to go with her all help greatly recieved

There are some marginated babies at sankey_julie@yahoo.com You would not be able to sex them as they are only last years babies but I would recommend them as completely healthy.

Well if your tortoise does have mbd, then getting another tortoise so soon, could/might cause
more stress. I would give this one a bit longer before getting another. Give this one a real
good chance of building up the health. This doesnt mean you cant add another tortoise at
some time. It might help you to look around and see whats available, as marginata are not
commonly bred. I dont know why as they are beautiful torts.
Just my opinion<g>.

I would just like to add that if you do ever get another tortoise please keep them seperate for a minimum quaranteen period of 6 months just in case one passes something to the other.

I would have thought adding a little baby after three months treatment on the other one would be fine. Any lasting damage is not going to repair itself anyway, regardless of treatment, but as the shell has firmed up, the bones will have taken calcium on board too. Nessie may not want to buy torts from the Midlands, living in Yorkshire, but the offer is still there. Are you seing Stuart McArthur's surgery Nessie? If so I would ask either his or Sarah's advice on this one
