your sully will need grasses and hay similar to a leos diet
the mixed grasses should be about 75% of the diet
with weeds and safe flowers etc maing up the other 25%
sullys and leos are able to digest the nutrients from the grasses and hays

What a beautiful little tort! I would have done the same thing too. Whether you decide to keep him or find him a new home, you have given this tort a better start in life

I don't see where the shell is peeling.

That tortoise has to be a couple of weeks old.

It looks healthy enough to actually save.

For starters... pick up one of the commercial grain based diets. Pretty pets is probably the easiest to find but T-Rex, Monster, Mazuri or NutraZu are just as good. Feed this moistened once or twice a week along with any dark leafy greens.

Temperature 75-95+F (range... cool to warm end)

Soak the little guy daily and provide a water dish at all times.

Well done on taking this little guy on.

Sulcatas are wonderful tortoises with such great personalities. I have 4 adults and two year olds and they are heaps of fun. They do grow very large though and will need a lot of space to graze. If you need any info please feel free to contact me.

OK now i am scared lol.

Thank you all for the advice and help. It is really appreciated.

At the moment he has dug a big hole under his basking spot and sat in there! He has not ate much yet but i know it will take him a couple of days to settle down.

My husband and i are going to sit down and have a long talk about if we can offer him a good forever home ref space and the finances. I dont want to keep him and then have to rehome in a few years time as wouldnt be fair to him.

It hasn't had the yolk sack totally close up so depending on when it hatched... I suspect 2 weeks... will take from 2 to 4 weeks to start eating.

Well done you for taking this little one on - I agree you do need to talk it through but if you have the space and the possibilty of giving him his own shed eventually then I would go for it.

I was totally unaware when i got my first tortoise ( as a present) that I had a Leopard - I was horrified when I was told about all their needs and really didn't think I could keep him .... 4 leopards later ....

I guess there is quite a drastic size difference but if you have the room I am sure he will be a very rewarding pet.

Their needs are actually quite simple unless the keeper wants to make it complex.

Good temperature, Good hydration, Good nutrition (not necessarily a green diet... which is actually quite difficult and time consuming) and enough space to move about... pretty simple.
