I was just comparing the sizes on dans list and saw that yellowfoots are a very close size to leopards and am wondering why people always try to put people off having leos because of their size yet yellowfoots dont get that reaction?
Or am i missunderstanding and the difference in care is the issue and not the size? Hoping not to offend anyone just curious xxx Nicky

The sizes Dan has posted up are the maximum they reach, not all animals reach these sizes .
My redfoots are old adult animals the females are. Rose 12inchs-3 1/2kg Scarlet 14inches- 5 1/2kg Ruby 15inches-6 1/2kg These are all sisters from the same clutch they are now 38yrs old Sally 16inches- 7 1/2kg wild caught long term captive, she is a little over weight. Ochre 16inches 6kg male redfoot wild caught long term captive . Yellowfoots Maya-14 inches 7kg very old wild caught long term captive. Inca-12inches 6kg ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,, Algerian spurthighed tortoise (f, whitei) Mrs White 12inches 4kg Blanche 12 inches 4kg Mable 13inches 4kg Ptomoley 13 inches 4 /12 kg The above are my largest tortoises. I do have at the moment two Iberia adult females staying over winter Grace 4kg 12inches Marg 3 1/2 kg 11 inches So Nicky as you can see Mediterranean species can also reach similar sizes to the tropical reds and yellows of course they don't reach the great sizes that some of the regional variants of the south American tortoises reach but still big . I think a lot of the advise on reds yellows and leopards is because people don't realise they aren't the giants that may be recorded in books , most try to advertise the largest size to make them sound more impressive when in fact it generally means they can reach or these sizes are recorded within the species. In my experience they are all easy if you do your home work on husbandry correctly to keep and cater for in captivity. Its mainly lack of knowledge of these species that people will state there difficulty to keep. If you are going into one of these species always buy captive bred and talk it through with the breeder to make sure you are making the right decision don't be but of by hearsay. Darren
