Default Is it possible he's winding down?

Hi,

I'm back for a little bit of advice please

I got my 18 month old tortoise a month or so ago now. He had settled in well, eating well and everything was great. But over the last few days he's been sleeping more and more and eating far less. I have the lamp on for the exact amount of time however the room he's in is still colder than it has been.

Is it possible he's actually winding down? Despite me trying to keep everything the same as I'm over wintering him this year. I am quite concerned. He didn't move for hours and hours this morning, not even for food. It wasn't til after I'd bathed him that he actually ate a little bit.

Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should be doing?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you

He could well be, especially if the room has got colder. There ha been a definite change this last week or so. Is there any way you can get the ambient temps of the room up a bit? My hatchlings are all still raring to go but the room they are in is pretty warm

It's more than likely. All mine are particularly the males. Only the juvs and hatchlings aren't. You've got to keep the tmps and lights up to try and fool your tortoise but it's difficult if he already has caught a wiff of Autumn!

Definitely, my are just beginning to realise that it's early Autum, except the hatchlings cos I've got them under nice warm lights . So you need to fool them.

I think a warm bath in the morning def helps, but mine always eats less in autumn. Maybe you should get advice as whether to hibernate him for a shorter time rather than over wintering?

If you up the night time temperature of the table to 18 to 20C you shouldn't have any problem with the little one getting up in the morning.
