Coco coir - amazing!

For all those that, like me, has spent most of their tortoise keeping lives moaning about topsoil that has bits in it, too dusty or those annoying little flies in it, try the coco coir substrate from pets @ home! Ive been so impressed with it, its really clean smells fresh and very warm, my hatchlings love to bury themselves in it. Really can't recommend it enough.

ive been using it too, for the first time 2 weeks ago. It is really lovely, holds moisture better and doesnt get so dry and dusty. Though the pancakes were terrified of it when i first put it in, they ran to cower in the basking area looking at me as if to say "what have you done!" but now they snuggle up in it and seem happy

it also is working well for growing seeds in, so far so good!

I've just seen that it comes in a brick form.. Do you just break it apart and spread it around or do you need to add water to it?

you have to soak the brick in a bucket of 3-4 litres of water, it makes loads and loads!

Wow thanks Doodle bug that is a lot cheaper! Lynne you have to pop the bricks in a bucket of water and let it soak into a mush, its a bit mucky at first and I had to leave the torts out of their pens overnight as it takes 10 hrs or so to dry up

I always put 1ltr less than what it says or if I put the right amount and find its too wet I squeeze any extra water out.
