Dan are first pictures with the heavily marked golden are these juveniles and will they become golden as they get older. Also could you give a better explaination of domed and slop fronted differences are these classed as spp or sub spp or are they the same thing anything you can tell me about them most appreciated .

Darren, all most all the little ones I've seen have some kind of color like this. They should get some more light color on them, but I think they're going to be darker then what most of the adults look like. Not sure why though.
With the sloped and the domed I'll try to explain the best I can. Much easier in person though Here is a domed female And a sloped female And a sloped male The sloped and the domed come in with the first vertebral scute. In the domed it's curved outward from the front to the back in profile. The sides are more rounded too. In the sloped the first vertebral goes in then up in profile. The scute is straight side also and flares towards the front of the scute. The domed animals have a more oval over all shell shape, where the sloped are more elongated. The heads on the domed are short and rounded, where as the sloped ones heads are longer and more pointed. I hope I explained it all right Dan

Darren, technically neither one has a valid subspecies. floweri and terrestris aren't valid. Lots of work needs to be done in the Middle East to sort these guys out. The way it's working out now with DNA testing. The North Africans are Testudo graeca and all the others, Middle east, Turkey, Europe, Iran and Russia are Testudo ibera. Each with there own subspecies, DNA doesn't work well for subspecies. They were though able to differenciate T.g. soussensis, so it might be a seperate species.
Dan Wouldn't mind seeing pics of the ones the zoo has
