Coldframes

For those of you not on TF, Wyevales garden centres have a sturdy plastic coldframe for
only £29.99. Its much wider than my metal ones.
Homebase also have a greenhouse made from the same plastic for under £200. Worth a look.
You can also buy them from "Studio cataloge" on line.

I bought two of those this morning at Wyevale, Sandy (one for me and one for a friend). I haven't put it together, but it looks pretty good. It's 37" x 39" x 19" high. It was £29.99, and they also had a wooden framed one with really cheap, flimsy plastic panes, and it was half the size and cost £60. And when I asked if I could have a discount for having two, the woman gave me 10% off (it never hurts to be cheeky <g>). It's important to remember, though, that it's made of polypropylene, and that doesn't let UV through (the same as glass doesn't let UV through).

I couldnt find any info on line from Wyevales. But I am not so literate with computers<g>.
They are certainly worth a look.
No glass/plastic lets UV through, unless you go for a certain brand which is so expensive I cant
afford it<vbg>.
Coldframes are certainly worth using with torts. I have used them for the last ten years or more,
They allow the torts to warm up first thing in the morning (without a light in them) and in bad
weather a great shelter. If you can fix a light in them, then thats even better.

Hi Sandy,

Does the XXXXXX by you sell tortoises too, I am only asking because this is where I traced Dug's entrance into the UK from the Cheshire Branch, and they were still selling tortoises up to 18 months ago before I got penny and jenny from a very reputable UK breeder.

The fella that is sellls the tortoises in this one was insistent on telling me spurs and hermans can happily live together with no problems and of course we all know its not the case.

Sorry to bring your thread a little off topic but was curious if the whole chain of the garden centre group was selling torts or not, and BTW they were slovinian imports too at that which he was very open and hounest about, even saying a mate of his goes over to germany and other eastern european destinations bringing them back for around £10 each. Goes to show how much profit is being made at the expense of wild stocks.

This branch has never sold torts that I know of. But I do know there was a branch in West Sussex/
Surrey, that did. I think they now dont sell at any branch. Most have closed down their reptile/pet
sections.
