Built outdoor enclosure - what needed extra
Have built my outdoor enclosure after stalling a bit due to the rain over last few months.
Currently the earth half is boarded off to allow seeds and the like to grow and I will be getting some lavender, sage and heather to plant in that side. So what have I missed that I need to add for my two Hermann's? This side of the garden has natural sun and shade throughout the day. thanks Ben |

OOH its lovely, when will you allow them in? I have the same problem with growing seeds. I expect you will place some food in the stone area to eat in the mean time.
I made a big mistake of covering the seedling with plastic covers to protect them from my two but they still got under and then the risk of them cooking under the cover was terrifying so. You have done the right thing partitioning it off completely.

Is there anything dug in around the sides to stop them digging out?

Chicken mesh stretched across the bottom and stapled to the base. Plus the ground underneath is solid.

It looks very good!
Lavender, rosemary, etc., would even do well on the gravel side for shade, as long as there is a bit of soil mixed in. You could pick the dwarf versions so they don't get too big.

Looks amazing . Can't wait to see what plants you put in so I can copy and know what is safe that they wont eat all off .

Well I had mixed results with this enclosure last year. Not helped by the poor weather.
This year going to revamp by moving it to te other side of the garden where there is more sun. Plus I was thinking of removing the house and replacing it with a tortoise cold frame from arch wood greenhouses like this http://www.archwoodgreenhouses.co.uk...uct&prodId=997 As I think it will allow them to get the early sun and warm up. Finally I'm not going to have some much soil as spent most of last year trying to find buried tortoises. |

That sounds like a good idea but you could make something similar yourself for a fraction of the cost if you could find an old window frame, I expect a double glazing firm would have loads in a skip out the back
