'fraid so! It's only a small risk but a risk non the less. I have small children, they aren't allowed to handle the torts unless they're supervised, they then get their hands washed in antibacterial soap. As long as you are sensible, to me it's not an issue

Yes they do,but salmonella is everywhere, aslong as you keep their enclosure clean and wash hands after touching them it is ok.I wouldnt have a tort if i had a baby I dont think,my sons are 14 and 10.I also wouldnt let my tortoises loose in the house,on the floor

In over thirty years of keeping tortoises, I have never actually heard of any one getting salmonella. Although its true you can if your hygene is not good.

common sense and good hygiene is what is needed
i would be more concerned about the numerous infections from raw or undercooked poultry, other meats, raw eggs or other contaminated food. |

I can't believe I'm writing this but when I was a boy me and my sister used to drink little bits of my Red Eared Slider Terrapins water in an attempt to get a sickie off school. Never worked
