i use iams nature's wellness (chicken flav). my 5 love it, they almost run to the dish when i put it in.

I believe that redfoots do not need anymore protein than any other tortoise. This bit of RF lore seems to have stemmed from one or 2 observations that are continually cited so it looks like it is a common occurance.
If you read through the original references you will see that RFs do not encounter or consume animal protein any more than any other tortoise. If you go out of your way to feed animal protein with any kind of constant fequency you will most likely run into problems down the road. A good balanced diet... the same as you provide for any tortoise... is all you really need. You can provide this by giving as varied a diet as possible or a good formulated diet which is commercially availabl.

Well this year im giving mazuri a go with my red foots. I had alot of eggs off them but hardly any fertile. Im hoping this diet will help.
I have noticed that they are alot heavier and more active this year.

I'm not at home so I don't have them handy but for one google Moskowitz redfots and the other is the Turtles of Venezuela, Peter Pritchard and another author.
Keep in mind that the current range of the Redfoot is throughout the Carribean south to Paraguay.

I suspect that the biggest problems are the fat and the type of amino acids that make up the protein in the different sources.
I'm not aganst feeding animal protein. I'm against saying that it is a required part of any tortoises diet.
