I've got coeliac disease so am used to seeing people eat things I can't touch wherever I am but that doesn't stop me from feeling hungry. I'm so surprised that you can't even have water. In the middle of summer when it's hot you must get a dry mouth.

Exactly. You know you can't have it and you don't crave it after a while but I love food and I'd struggle not eating all day; not even having a drink. I'm pretty sure I'd get grumpy after a few days, especially watching others tucking into their food. It's not the actual food - I just like eating.
I know I'd get light-headed and short-tempered.

Good luck to you. When does Ramadan finish?

Well good luck. I hope your friend invites you to celebrate Eid after you've supported her through Ramadan.
I'm sure you'll have a feast of your own planned.
Are you just observing the fasting side of Ramadan or using the time spent fasting for contemplation, albeit in a different way to Muslims?

OMG, I do respect but I am far too fond of my drink, sweets, and roast dinner and wotsits.....I'm not the size of a house honest. I could only abstain if I was gutting a fish and then for 10 minutes tops, CB x

There was a programme on the radio and those living in the most northerly parts of Scotland are having to do it for 18 hours a day. I say having to but they don't actually have to at all because a doctor was saying that if it affects their ability to do their job as a surgeon or a pilot for example then they can decide against it.

Yes I agree and surely some people may have conditions they would keel over without food and drink. Though its a hard call when your religion does support it possibly. CB
