It gets up to 90% humidity where I live which is why I have a dehumidifier in my enclosure

I'm pushing to get to 50. Got some re-thinking to do. Thanks.

My Star is 8mths old. I use a 50/50 ish mixture of soil and sand. My enclosure is a ferplast cage with a ceramic heat source attached to a thermostat at the top end and a heat mat at night with UV strip light across the top. Temps being 33ish under the heat and 22/23 at the cool end and 20/22 at night. Apart from spraying I must confess to not understanding fully the importance of humidity, resulting in the enclosure being far to dry. Also reading all the information found on Shelled Warriors I now realise that the cool end has been too cool.
Yesterday, following your advice and that of others,i have moved the the ceramic heater to a central position resulting in all the outskirts now in the high 20's. I have also positioned my water tray half under the heat and have added a soaked huba hide. This has caused the humidity to rise significantly. On my first group of readings the humidity has generally been 60+ in the enclosure with 90+ under the hide. What do you think? |
