They look great and have found themselves a super home.

But I'm confused. It doesn't make much sense for an Asiatic species to be smuggled in via North Africa. Even if the Morocco part of the story is mistaken and they were smuggled into the UK by air from one of the former USSR states it still seems odd. These tortoises don't need any certificates, air freight isn't cheap and 300 horsfields must weigh a lot but are not expensive to buy. Apart from being just wrong, this also looks like a poor way to try and make money.

Thanks Matt -all very interesting. I am assuming they know what they are doing at Heathrow with the tippex? I thought it had nasty chemicals in it.

300 of them, my goodness I do hope they find good homes.

I think I may investigate tortoise sanctuary and re-homing needed. I would deadly love to have more torts and although my husband is against more (worrying about the future years) perhaps we could offer a good home where needed.

Thanks again
Jan

Even cheaper Jonathan if people don't pay air freight stick them in a case and smuggle them in...300 is small fry.

Nail varnish Jan ! can be taken off with nail polish remover and completely harmless.

Beautiful Horsfields Matt, what a special home they will have now....lots more pickys please ....watch them growing up on here ......! CB

I'm sure they're just settling in, Matt. It sounds like they've been through quite a lot. Try not to worry, keep them hydrated and I'm sure they'll be eating soon for you.
Let us know how they get on.

I agree with Emma Matt , settling in , could take over a week or so, don't speak too soon as Horsfields will eat you out of house and home if you can't find weeds ! good luck !

Hey matt, you decided to take on some lovely horsfields, they look great, they have been through a lot and if they are wild caught or farmed they will take a while to settle especially if they were beginning to hibernate, they are quite hardy but watch for any illnesses, you will have to get them sexed in the Id thread and we can all have a go x

Looking forward to seeing more pictures x
