just to add urates the whits stuff are to be expected but they should be white and creamy if they are gritty it means your tort is not fully hydrated so you need to sort that out more opportunity to drink more baths spray water onto weeds check substrate is correct check temps are correct linda xx |

hi linda, when i feed Ollie Dandelions, i always wash them and give it to him
wet. What do you mean by check substrate is ok? If you mean bedding, it is hemp the temp in his table is 32 all day down to 21 at night. His lamps are on from 7.30 am until about 6.30 pm. By bathing more do you mean i should bath him everyday? He has fresh water every day but because i work, i can't keep an eye on how much he drinks. He walks through it all the time but i never see him drinking any. bertie |

hi
by correct substrate i meant that you were not using something that was causing him to dry out ( like calcisand which is bad) hemp is fine if this were my tort showing gritty urates i would definatly bath it dayly if not more frequently at least until i was seeing creamy urates gritty urates for a couple of days is not so bad but gritty urates over a prolonged period would definatly be a worry to me that is why personally i would definatly increase bathing |

If my tort ever shows signs of dehydration (gritty urates), I increase the baths, but I also give him a thin slice of cucumber after he has had his daily food, just for a day or two, as the water in the cucumber helps to rehydrate him.
