Thanks Nina, thanks Ade and Sandy too,
I'm keeping her warm and I've bathed her again in Salt water and slathered her wounds in Savlon. She is eating but I'm terrified that she'll slip away during the night through shock. Like everybody else on this forum my torts are my heart and joy and I'm sick with worry. But all your good advice and kind words are helping. This is a brilliant forum I'll mail tomorrow and let you all know how she is. the vet is ringing in the morning with an appointment for an antibiotic injection. Thanks again Louise

Thanks Nina and evertone else,
She's okay today. I left her heat lights on all night so that she didn't go into shock. I've been to see the vet who examined her wounds and says that they are all superficial except the one in the second picture. She gave me 'hibiscrub' to clean the wounds with and some oral antibiotics. She's ringing me later with the dosage because shes going to consult with Bairbre O'Malley who seems to be the only vet who specialises in Tortoises in Ireland! She's eating and although shes a bit subdued she is moving around. Thanks for all your concern. I didn't sleep a wink myself with all the worry, but I do know that she was a lucky girl and that if my husband hadn't come aross the dog when he did it would be a different story today. Louise

Hi Ade,
Hi everyone. Poppy has now finished her antibiotics and is doing well. She is active and eating. The immediate danger is over as regards shock etc. but how will I know if she develops an infection?.....................its not like I can take her temperature LOL As her puncture wounds heal what signs will I look out for to spot an infection and head it off? When do you think she could go back outside? Thanks for all you help guys, Poppy says thanks too. If it weren't for this site........................... Louise
