Wireless thermometers advice please
ooh I haven't been on here for ages... Does anyone use any wireless thermometer which they can recommend. The tort shed is about 100 feet away. I want to hibernate the large females in there this winter - it's a wooden 5x4x5 feet shed. The wood is 28mm tongue and groove. Inside has a 5cm triple-layer of foil/fibre insulation, and a tubular heater. The shed stands on a base of brick, on top of concrete paving. Inside the shed the base is 50mm of marine ply, on top of that is a thick plastic tray 15cm deep and filled with topsoil. The tort shed is next to another larger wooden shed, has fence and hedging behind and at one side and overhead a trellis with clear corrugated sheeting on top, so no rain gets onto the tort shed. I'd like to have a thermometer probe inside the shed and read the temperature from inside my house.
Any suggestions on a good quality wireless thermometer would be appreciated. Thanks all. Karen

Hi karen, long time no see, i was going to hibernate my adults in their shed last year, but the temperatures fluctuated too much, even got to 17c at one point which was too warm, ialso use wireless digital thermometers/hygrometers but dont think they are very acurate as i have wired ones with probes and the temps read different lol but they are not expensive ones, maybe the more expensive ones will be better x

I haven't a clue about wireless thermometers I'm afraid Karen, but just wanted to say it's nice to see you back.

I've never had one but they are quite cheap. This Amazon one works up to 100 metres away http://www.amazon.co.uk/TFA-Dostmann...s+thermometers

Hello all, nice to be back, thanks for your replies. I've been preoccupied with a building project (hubby's garage/workshop - which is turning out to be almost as big as our house), and with hubby away for 4 weeks, I've been ordering the materials, managing builders and deliveries etc. Lots of 9 feet deep trenches dug out of heavy clay for the footings, which then collapsed in from all the heavy rain, and had to be re-dug. The dogs thought it was great fun to jump across the trenches 400 tonnes of clay removed and fifty tonnes of concrete poured. Thankfully we are now almost above ground. Hubby's parents were quite a challenge too, with one ill and one in hospital, so have been arranging care, visits, meetings with social/nurses/consultants/organising suitable accoutrements/furniture for return home from hosp etc. Work very busy too, so my stuff's been on hold for a while. Torts are seriously winding down and digging down deep into their soil, I keep having to dig them up to try to make them stay under their lamps and drink a bit. Will bring most of them into the greenhouse this weekend to keep them a bit warmer until it's time to hibernate them properly.
Karen x
