Indian Star fussy eater
H I have an Indian star who is nearly 2yrs old. I have had him since a baby, but he seems to be really fussy eater.
I have tried lots of different things, grasses/ dandilions/ carrots/cress but he always leaves them. All he seems to like is mixed lettuce leaves and the dried tortoise pellets which I soak. Anything else he seems to turn his nose up to. Is there anything anyone else can think of that I can try???? And if he only eats what he is eating will he be deficient in something? |

I also have almost 2 years old indian Star (two of them) and know they can be picky with what they eat. Mixed lettuce leaves are fine. Pellets should have all nutrients he needs for healthy growth. What pellets do you feed him? Their appetite will increase as they grow bigger, and they will start eating more weeds and grasses.

From what i hear t-rex is good formula. I feed my Stars Mazuri tortoise diet.
There is a European version of it, called Nutrazu, very similar. Some members of this forum sell it, they buy in bulk, big bags. You will not need a whole bag for long time so maybe buying a small amount is ideal. Mine also eat ZooMed Grassland tortoise formula, it has chopped grass and many members of this forum give Pre- Alpin which is very good supplement to the main diet.

Hey Lucy, I recently got a Star, about 3 years old and male. Couldn't get him eating any greens, veg or fruit. Tried those mazura pellets and bingo, he loves them and it's kicked started his appetite. Now he will take courgette skin, small bits of rocket and carrot but he'a wolfing down the pellets which is great because they are full of goodness.
I'm gonna weane him off the pellets as his main staple and get some Dandolines in to him soon. Anyway the mazuri pellets worked a treat for him and after losing 40gs he is now piling on the weight and bulking up. Miracle pellets is what they should be called. Thanks again louise "Hoopalou" for sending them to me.

The most effective method I have found to "cure" a picky eater is to dice up the foods they will eat very finely and mix it with a small amount of the other foods you want them to try, also diced finely. Over time gradually increase the amount of other foods until they start to eat them willingly.
