Lightbulb UVB strip fittings...

Hi, first post on here. I've got a 2 or 3 year old Horsefield called Pauline (although we now think she's actually a male, the name's stuck though ).

I've got an exo-terra repti-glo 5.0 for Pauline, and I have a starter unit for it, but it's pretty bulky, I'm an electrician myself but never deal with lighting. Would a standard fluorescent fitting that's the same dimensions and similar wattage work instead of the bulky starter work the same? It'd save a lot of cabled trailing out of the box aswell.
