They are incredibly well made boxes but I'm wondering what the polythene is for, is there resin leaking from the pine perhaps? Some people use yacht varnish to paint their bare wood and knotting sealant to stop the resin leaking. I never painted mine with anything, I just left it bare wood but there was no resin leaking.
Are the torts not ripping the polythene?

Edit.. on closer inspection it looks like top quality dressed and finished pine so there will most likely be no resin and probably no need to varnish.

I am so pleased you could upload your photos. It is all looking really good, with lots of space. Looks like you have given up quite a lot of your garden - lucky torts. They obviously love being under their lamp.

I will leave it to the experts to comment and advise.

the plastic is to stop any damp going though so it doesnt damage the structual integrity of the unit.
No they don't see to be interested in the plastic so no rips or tears in it so far - I do a weekly check to make sure.

I wanted to make sure they had a good outdoor space as their indoor space seems to be smaller than most people on here have. However due to horrid weather I havent been able to put them outside much so far, but hope to get heat lamps installed soon so they can be outside more.
