The modern varnish product's like Ronseal, left to dry well should be ok, as said paints would be the child/baby safe stuff, this can be expensive.

Hi
I work as a technical advisor for Ronseal (please don't phone me with any complaints though!) and I would recommend either Quick Drying Varnish or Eco Varnish if you want a clear finish or a coloured quick drying varnish if you want a nice colour. They are both water based, very quick drying and tort safe. For an outdoor enclosure I would use either Ronseal Quick drying Woodstain or 5 Year Woodstain. If anyone needs any advice on products like this then just pm me! |

I bought some 5 year woodstain for a garden bench, it took that long before i got round to using it. It's a man thing.

I use Cuprinol ducks back paint. As recommended here. Its weatherproof and pet safe and comes in a several colours.
