I would seriosly consider reporting him to DEFRA anyway as he has broken the law by selling the tortoise without a licence! Will be interesting to see if you do get the licence keep us up to date Nicky

I think you should get the original. How do you know that the shop don't just have one cert which they've photocopyed multiple times.

why on earth would the shop keep the certificate. If you bought the tortoise then it should be
your certificate. How do you know the photo copy you got is the one for your tortoise. The shop keeper could give out the same photo copy to every one. I would think a photo copy would be illegal too.

get the original cert back! a photocopy won't be looked at in good light especially if you wish to breed in the future...ask the shop to keep the photocopy - our seller did incase we lost ours so we knew the info to put on a replacement form, which happened!

okay...
Defra have been in touch and advised that there is no reason that the shop should keep the origonal cert and that i should have it. They said that cert should follow the tort (as stated on the cert etc) they advised em to get in touch with the peole again and advise them of this and make sure i get the cert. Well i called the shop and advised them of this, they said that this was not the case and they themselves had been advised by Defra that they should always keep the origonal incase i lost it and they could then do me a copy etc. I again stated that i had been told to ensure that i got the cert, but they where having no of it so i have emailed the woman i spoke to at Defra again (she was very helpful) and advised that they will still not ket me have it and are claming that Defra had told them to keep it. I will let you know what happens next... (any help kicking pet shop ass would be greatfully recived) Has any one got any advice or tips?

Can anyone else hear alarm bells ringing? My advice to you is stand your ground you know you are in the right and their behaviour is very suspicious! I would also put in writing the request for the licence and photocopy it and ask for a written reply otherwise it might turn out to be your word against theirs in regards to refusing to give it to you. Hope this helps we are all supporting you so stand firm you are in the right remember that xxxx Nicky
