what i cant understand is......pellets are not part of their natural diet, grasses and weeds are, so how can pellets be better, especially when some brands have colourings in them, and possibly other non essential stuff that could do torts more harm in the long term than good. mine get weeds, weeds, and grasses, also plants, and they are fitter than me!! mmmm i might try eating what they eat myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with all the above but unfortunately we're living in the age of convenience. People go into a pet shop and think that the products on offer fulfil the nutrional needs of the animal and that's easier than foraging for the nutrients yourself .. plus why should you bother because clever marketing leads you to believe you're doing the right thing anyway.

I despair.

I agree totaly, i am new to tortie keeping, but wouldent dream of putting pellets any where near my guys.
Mine dont have the lovely smooth growth of yours, but they spent their first three years in a viv. on a diet of super market veggies and fruit.(previous owners)
It is lovely to see them in there outside enclosure digging and foraging as
they should be.

erm just look at the torts in the wild ......you dont see many........if any of them with pyramiding.......and they certainly don't nip down to the shop for a rip off tin of pellets when they are hungry......let nature speak for its self!!!

this thread just shows how easily led some people are and how a bit of marketing from pellet makers can make it seem the perfect thing to do for your pet!!

I personally only feed mine on weeds and he is growing up very smooth and shiney!!
