These Cuora amboinensis, when I first started keeping them twenty five years ago, were considered to be one of the commonest South east Asian turtle species. However, in the years since they have been dramatically exploited in the Asian food markets. Some of the most graphic images of horror taken in these markets are Malayan box turtles whom have been literally pulverised, to the point of near oblivion. |
