petshop torty diet
A lovely little reptile shop has opened round the corner from where I live.
They have the usual reptiles, lots of little beardies and baby beardies and one horsfield who is about 18 months. He is gorgeous! He looks like he has some over growth at the front of his shell like the front vertically increases? I asked what they fed him and they said dandelion, lettuce and cabbage and hes reserved for someone buying him on Saturday I think so I hope they dont advise the owner to fed him on lettuce and cabbage and lots of dandelion. Do I go back in and advise them not to feed lettuce and cabbage and risk being chucked out or do I just leave it.... I really wanted to say something but last time I said something at a shop a member of staff really intimidated me. I want to keep going in to look at all the animals.... but I dont want them to think 'Oh heres the tortoise b***h again.' if you get what I mean.... |

I know how you feel... My local pet shop (which is like a zoo) I see the tortoises there and they are fed salad leaves or a big saucer of Komodo pellets... I feel so sorry for them too as they're over crowded in a small viv .. That said, the animals there are always in clean homes.
I choose not to say anything as I really don't believe they'd listen to me or even care, but my heart does ache for them... I just hope they are bought by decent people who care enough to read how to look after them properly.

Some are better than others, Soph. There are some...that do the right thing. And some that just think they know best and are complete rubbish.
It grates at me too.... |

Maybe you could phone them and give them some friendly advice. That way you can help the tortoise and still visit the shop.
