Default Exo Terra Solar Glo - £25

Hi! I love the bargains and buys section of the forum! I thought I'd share one:

I have just found the Exo Terra Solar Glo 125W and 160W bulbs on offer for £25 each - a total bargain considering in my local pet shop they are £57 each!

Here is the link:

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/reptil..._lights/114906

I've not heard of this website before, they seem pretty genuine and I hope they are as I just bought one! (I'll let you know if it doesn't arrive in one piece!)

Best wishes

Carol and Reggie

Me too, although I got confused on the website and ended up ordering two tortoise houses. After a couple of phonecalls they said to refuse the second house which would in turn be returned to them and they would refund me.
I duly did this but didn't get the refund. I didn't chase this up though, can't remember why...and it was my fault I messed up the order so It wouldn't put me off them, I'd just take more care when ordering

I buy my Solar Glos from zooplus, great value. I did have a dodgy one once that only lasted a few weeks, but Zooplus were really good about it - they sent me a replacement that arrived within a couple of days and didn't even ask for the old one to be returned so I am a big fan of Zooplus!

Ive had bad times with the solar glos, I've bought 3 in the past year alone never again. My last one, barely 2 months old blew its elements and tripped the electrics in my house this morning. And its not my electrics causing it either because I lived at my Mums for a month and it did the same there.

I have an arcadia and they are so much more reliable

It might be worthwhile investing in a Solarmeter 6.2 to measure what sort of UV you're getting, if buying one of these.
Some good, some not so good and having a SM should allow you to make sure its throwing out the levels it should.
I think Alan did some tests on these...or at least like for like comparison with other makes of bulb.
By in large - the best ones to get are the Arcadia 160w (of which you get 12months warranty) and the MR 120w. Darren has also a new MR bulb called the Mega Ray raptor (i think, Darren is that right? ) and has had very good feedback so far on them.
But, certainly think of investing in a SM 6.2 or the like so atleast you know whats coming out of it.
BTW, the deal itself that Carol mentions I agree is a good one in terms of price!!.. xx

Thanks for the info Carol.I have one of these, I used it after the Megaray fiasco(I see creepy Bob is still on the website!!!) and to be fair it gave me no problems whatsoever.
Like Rach says, you would need to check using a Solarmeter to ensure correct
output.
Moved over to an Arcadia now.
Good price

Thats really interesting, I was dissappointed with my Solarglow too. It blew within months! I thought it was just an issolated case, but having read this, I shan't buy another one.

Ive had nothing but problems with my solar glo, kept flickering and constantly switching on and off. Just ordered an Arcadia now, fingers crossed!

The Solarmeter's aren't cheap I will admit but IMO a vital piece of kit if anyone has a combined bulb in their set up. It's the only way to know if the UV is consistent, not throwing it out at odd angles (Jon Osric I think had this), and the decay rate of the bulb. Without this, your in the dark.
