Smile Flo's Shell and Sexing

Hello all,

It's a shame that the weather has turned cold again, hopefully it will get warmer soon. Here are some pictures of my 2-3 year old Horsefield's Tortoise Flo. Do you think her shell is developing alright? What sex do you think she is?
Many thanks,

I think it's just the light, she's was kept in a Vivarium at the reptile centre where I got her from. However she's in a large tortoise table now. I got her in November.

Your Horsfields is a female Her shell isn't the best, but you work with what you have. It doesn't look like she has had much growth since you've had her, so more food and calcium should help. She does have a bit of MBD going on with the wavy new shell growth between the marginals and coastals. This you can never change now that it has happened and all new growth will be wavy.

Ok thanks Danny. I'm just trying so hard to keep away pyramiding and MBD. Do you know for certain what sex they are at this age? I'm happy she's a female, as want to find her a female friend.

Haha , I'm so happy she's a female, and no she hasn't grown that much at all since I got her in November. It's good the weeds are out, I'm getting a new Uv tube on Monday, so that should slow down and prevent the MBD.

As I got her in November it was hard to provide a varied diet. However as the weeds have come up for Summer, she has: Vetch, Sticky weed, Sedum, Bindweed, Dandelion, Rocket, Salad and Pansies. I'm growing some Shelled Warriors seeds, so she can have some of that too. She has calcium supplement every day, and has cuttlefish in her enclosure, however goes through periods of liking it and disliking it. I give her baths three or four times a week, and she has a bathing dish in her enclosure. I'm just happy that she's a female, hopefully I can get another female soon.
