horsefield tortoises mating

hi all.after a male and female tortoise have mated how long does it take for the female to lay the eggs and she has a tortoise table could she incubate them herself on the table or would i need to get an incubater .thanks for your time

Depends on the age and size of the female, if she has laid before, time of year. Usually three to four weeks gestation, but everything has to be right before she lays. Just mating is not going to produce eggs, you have to know if your female is actually able to produce eggs yet. No, the female does not incubate the eggs, you will need to make or buy your own incubator. Lets have more info. on both tortoises to help you.

hi thanks for getting back to me.right the male is ment to be about 5 years old and the little lady is 3 years old. she approx 5 inchs long and the male is about 8 inches long.i dont know that much about them as ive had the girl one about a month and the boy about aweek.

Your female will not be old enough to produce eggs for a long time, around eight to ten years and according to size. If your male is busy trying, then they need to be seperated, or your female still a baby will become very stressed.

That would be a huge male Horsfields Are you sure those sizes aren't supposed to be the other way around?

I was thinking the same as Danny my biggest adult male is only 5 3/4"

Can i jump on the bandwagon here as i have 2 female 3year old horsefields, that i have had for 1 year, and have been thinking about getting a male to put in with them but someone said that that wouldn't work as the male had not been bought up with the girls so would attack them and be brutual while ttrying to mate and would hurt them is this true??? Im confused but dont wont to put my girls in danger
