White membrane on RES's legs
Hi
Today I noticed what looked to me like little whitish membrane on the legs of my red eared slider. I'm not really sure what is this exactly and if it were there before or not. This membrane is only visible while she's in water, not when she's outside. Unfortunately it needs a very good camera to capture it, though I'm not 100% sure if it would appear on a photo. Any ideas ? |

Sounds like a fungus problem. One of the easiest things to do is to keep her warm and dry for 3 hours than back in the water for an hour. Do this throughout the day. Do this for about a week and see how it is than. If it hasn't cleared up you will have to get a fungicide that is used for fish to soak her in.

Ok, what I understood is that I'll get her out of water, dry, warm for 3 hours then back to water for one hour then out again for another 3 hours and so on for a whole week, is that correct .
Any ideas for keeping her warm out of water, I live in Dubai and the AC is on 24/7 and set to 25C, is that ok ? Thanks for your help. |

Yes you have that right.
A basking light should keep her warm. It wouldn't have to be a high wattage bulb to get it to 30C for her. Danny

Could it possibly be skin shedding, although normally it is not seen, but may be in warmer water/temperatures etc - just a thought?

Well, I didn't have much information about skin shedding but as I read, Fungal infections can lead to skin shedding or mimic the appearance of skin shedding so I think Dan's suggestions will not harm anyway.

30C as I read before it should be 28 to 30C.
Here are 2 pics with highlight on the second one for what I mean. It's around the leg and yesterday I also noticed a couple around the head, it's not really that clear but it may give an idea. Last edited by amaksoud; 08-09-2012 at 10:52 AM. |
