Terrapin Tax
With wholesale exporters and the Terrapin farms achieving approx €1 per hatchling terrapin for the commonly traded "green terrapin" species an EU levy of €10 per animal would put a 1000% increase on the importer in the EU. Imagine the impact that this would have on the current level of trade!
I suspect the economics of mass import would cease virtually overnight and greatly reduce the numbers sold in the pet trade. Furthermore, if some of these revenues were allocated to the environmental cleanup. The burden of what occurred in Tuscany via the "Ballasina" project? |

Lets hope this can happen, it would be good if the can make pet shops have some kind of licence on selling turtles, or they can be educated on selling cheap terrapins that grow too big is a bad thing to sell. sadly most shops don't even know what turtles they are selling
