Default ID & help please for Izzywizzy

Quote:
Hi I am both a brand new user of this site and also a brand new spur thighed tortoise owner to boot.
This is a massive learning curve for me and please be assured I have been doing extensive research to ensure I do my absolute best for my new family members.
I am little concerned about their shells though. They are a bit bumpy, I realise they shouldn't be smooth but exactly how bumpy should they be? I'm panicking now that they've been suffering from a lack of calcium, they have only been with me for 3 days and I've been told they were brought up on a diet of cabbage etc which has me worrying now!

Also how do I go about sexing them. I'm told the male has a larger tail but how can I check that without two different sexes together for comparison, both of mine look the same!

I'd be grateful for any help and advice.

Izzywizzy
Hello again and thank you both for your help getting these photo's processed. I hope it works this time around.

Ok this is the two of them together.

These next two photo's are the same tort just from the different angles, sorry they don't have names yet so I'll call him number 1, (notice my instincts still say boys).

And this is number 2.

Thanks again for your help

They are both Spur-thighs, Testudo graeca ibera, and males.

Thank you to you all for your help on this.
Helen1 can I please say a special thank you to you.
When I read pussygalore's reply on the other thread I have to confess I couldn't stop crying for the poor little mites, so thank you again for being so kind.
Can I just ask one more question though please, knowing now that they are both male does that mean as they grow and get older I will have a problem with fighting?

Thanks again

2 males can get on at times but you just have to watch out for any nonsence then give them a good talking to. That's what I do but mostly they get on. I have 2 Hermanns

Thank you everyone. My worries have been eased a little. I dare say when hibernation time comes around I'll be a nervous wreck once again and ask a million and one questions of you all, but for now I shall just have fun enjoying the new additions.
Hope you enjoyed your time in Rome Helen.
