The same thing happened to my German shepherd cross collie. Neighbour took him for a walk one day and never brought him back. My mum told me he went to live on a farm. I still miss him sometimes, sleep well Bruce.

My mum did that with my sisters dog, told her he went off to stud... really he got shot cos he kept attacking me just for walking in the room

When I was little and my budgie fell off its perch, I was told it had broken its leg and needed to go to a special hospital where budgies have special wheelchairs! I just went along with it, despite knowing it was crap, as it was preferable to arguing the toss with my parents. I knew my dad broke its neck and it haunted me for ages.
