I thought perhaps some horsfield owners may have used sand only
This is a species that requires a very dry, well-drained substrate indeed TT |

I use sharp sand mixed with topsoil for my Greeks, and topsoil for my horsfields, however the horsfields have a sandy area outside they love to bask on x
There isn't a both button, as I do and I don't x

http://www.tortoisetrust.org/article...d_habitat.html They recommend loam and sand for indoors, gravel with sandy soil if the outside area needs extra drainage. (Damp clay soils and grass not recommend, we've got well drain soil but our grass is wet most of the year.) Seems like OK advice to me so why the poll, who recommends 100% sand ? |

I don't know of anyone who recommends it though there may be people who do. I can't remember reading anything about why it shouldn't be used apart from it can get in their eyes.. but it will get in their eyes in the wild surely Last edited by Alan1; 12-11-2013 at 06:31 PM. |
