Hellooo
Hi there,
I'm Abee, I'm new to these forums, and tortoise keeping. I'm looking to get my first tortoise in the next few weeks after months of researching, looking around the area at different retailers. However, now after seeing the conditions some are being kept in some large pet shops, and garden centres 'specialising' in reptiles and aquatic animals, I've started to look more at rehoming/rescuing a tortoise; preferably a horsefield, red footed or Mediterranean. Does anyone out there have any contacts or tips on places to visit in the West Midlands, Staffordshire area which maybe able to help me find a tortoise in need a nice new home? Or, any private breeders in the areas who have horsefield, or red footed tortoises available. Thanks and hope to speak to you soon Abee! |

H Abee,
Welcome to Shelled Warriors. Buying tortoises from reputable breeders is a far better way to go than the pet shops and garden centres if at all possible. Rehoming can be a very lengthy process, and preference is usually always given to experienced keepers who have kept tortoises for a few years. I hope this helps.
