Falling asleep under the heat lamp
My 3 month old baby Hermann does this a lot. It's 32-34c under the lamp and 22c on the other side of her enclosure.
She won't get too hot by sleeping here, will she? She buries herself in the same spot at night, too, but the temps in the room fall to about 18c at night. Should I just trust her that she's doing what's right for her? Thanks.

Hi Ingrid... mine does this at times.. but even when its really warm in the room... at night he tends to move to coldest place in his table... right on the opposite side behind a plant pot ... maybe she just likes to keep warm.. !

yes i was wondering about this my two have taken to sleeping under the heat lamp at night which is controlled during the day / night on a dimmer stat night setting is 15, day 30, i moved their log cabin over to this side with a heat mat behind it and added readi-grass as a bedding (cheers sarah lol) yet they still opt to sleep outside under the lamp ?

All my hatchlings and up to two year olds sleep under the heat lamp this time of the year. All perfectly normal, mine have been doing it for years

That's good to know - thanks, Sandy.
I guess when you're only little it's harder to keep warm.

Too right! After the Arctic weather we've had the past few days, I want my own basking lamp! Or on a beach, under the sun would do just fine, in Barbados or somewhere... *puts jumper on*

After the snow weve had today my tortoise is now asleep under the heat lamp. I was worried about it but I've found this thread so I'm a bit more at ease now. Surely if he gets too hot he will move to a cooler part?

I have a large group of hatchlings ive hatched and ive found that some like to sleep in their hides and others like to sleep under the substrate under the heat light.
I think they are being lazy saving time for when the lights are put on in the morning, this way all they have to do is come to the surface lol
