Default Using Hay

Hiya

I was in the pet shop recently and saw that they have short cut hay with the dust extracted. Now I know the 2 main reasons for not using hay was the long strands could get caught around legs etc, and the dust can be bad for them. So if it's short cut with dust extracted, is it okay to be used with tortoises?

Thanks

Christy x

I think a lot of people do use it. The problems could start if it gets wet - this could cause spores. I don't use it myself, but some experienced keepers do.

You could use readigrass, its cheap for a big bale/bag if you go to horsesuppliers. They can eat it too. (dont let it get wet though, same as Hay)

Is it for bedding in a hide, all dried grass product's can be used, change it regualy. Dust extracted one's are safer, also Timothy Hay is a good one if you can get it from pet shop's.

I use readigrass with dried flowers for a bit of bedding and Ovid loves it, it's a bit like pot pourri and they can have a nibble on it as well. Available from the SW shop!

Hay traps humidity so just keep that in mind.
