Default What are the differences between Hermanns and Horsfields

Just wondering what the differences are?Is one easier to look after than the other?
Do they grow to different sizes?
I am a total beginner to the Tort world and want to get as much info as I can

Thank you
Sharon

HI Sharon

Main difference is that hermanns grow to be quite a bit bigger than horsfields, both are very similar care and husbandry. Russians do like digging so this has to be considered when building their enclosures. My personal favourites are horsfields, they are so full of character<g>

Have a look at www.thetortoisehouse.com for some more information.

Are the temperaments of Horsfields and Hermanns the same?

With people yes. Russians are quite "active" sometimes with each other<g> The males can fight sometimes but then so can hermanns. My group of adult russians live in complete harmony with each other. All males (whatever species) will have a bit of a scrap at some time in their lives. I love horsfields for their characters.
