These sound in an appalling state.
Your local council is the place to start, they will have an animal welfare officer. As said the Tortoise Trust can also help with sending out their care booklets. (Would the advice be taken on in this case tho?) Also contact the Tortoise Protection Group at http://www.tortoise-protection-group.org.uk/site/84.asp and tell them your findings. |

If your council do not respond and you dare set foot back in the shop it is worth while taking pictures (covertly of course) Then they have not excuse not to check. Well done for reporting them x

It's the same in my local pet shop. The same marginated tortoise has been for sale in there for months. He's being kept in a vivarium. I caught a glimpse of the care sheet they were giving out with their tortoises and it said about feeding them weeds and lettuce yet in his food bowl was a sprout, a grape and a cabbage leaf. He's also started pyramiding. I'm tempted to spend £145 on him just to give him a better life!!

Valerie if I did that in my local Reptile shop I would need a mortgage not just £145.00 lol I would take the lot. My local one has a Sulcata in a viv which is only about double the size of her. None of the other tortoises have enough space either, I think the only one with space the last time I was in there was a lonely Pancake on its own, it really did not look very bright at all. I think the RSPCA etc need to employ reptile specialists and go into all these places and shut the bad ones down for good!
