tort table plants & grass
hello all
just a quick question or 2 what type of grass and plants can i have in an indoor & outdoor enclosure for baby horsfield torts ? i plan to get some seeds from shelled warriors shop ( the pic and mix looks great ) and grow them for feeding, but what can i have in the enclosure that prehaps will be more for decor and not for feeding ? any help/advice would be awsome cheers |

I tend not to put plant in the indoor enclosure as i keep killing them! Occassionally i put a potted pansy for them to demolish off. Outside i have planted lavender, thyme and ornamental grasses all of which aren't edible. Have a look in the enclosure threads for ideas, thats what i did Good luck with your search have fun

Ones that don't need watering so much are best for indoors. The heat from the lamps dry them out in no time so aloe vera, aloe aristata, opuntia cactus and that kind of thing but best if the pots are high enough and heavy enough so they can't reach the plants or move the pots. You'll be surprised at how heavy an object they can move

I potted an aloe aristata in my Hermann's enclosure and she scoffed it. Put on far too much weight too quickly, so I removed what was left of it.
Those plants are full of sugar, so of course torts love them. But like Alan said, they should be out of reach, or your torts will demolish them and get chunky. Herbie still has an Opuntia in her enclosure, but she's shown no interest in it so far.
