Any sign of water on the soil or slate, even drips off the washed weeds sometimes sets mine off

Weird we were only talking about this yesterday. I was asked why im bathing mine so much during wind down, cus last time I said I had to be careful they didnt "wee" during hibernation?
I have read that tortoise's hold onto wee until they have access to more water to replace it. This is probably what would normally occur in the wild but in captivity with us bathing them so regularly this possibly doesnt apply so much. My hermans "wee" loads & frequently, especially my little one who's having special care & so many baths he thinks he's a terrapin! & yes nearly always on their food slate - maybe to make room? I just tend to think its a sign of them being well hydrated, which after all were supposed to be aiming for. |
