We also had a pedestrian pigeon for over 8 years who had a knobbled wing. We called her Arthur 'cos she was only (h)"alf a" pigeon. It healed up ok but didnt flex properly, so instead of flying she just spun on the spot. After a year she laid an egg, but the name of Arthur had stuck by then.
She was the best pet you could ever have had - more human than human. Very affectionate, but she did have the odd habit of laying an egg on your lap occasionally though. She used to come with us on archaeological digs, sat at the side of the trench while we dug & had her own tent. |

Had a look at the photo - that wound looks rather nasty - hope it doesnt get infected. Also, do you think the wing may need supporting in some way in case it sets in the droop position?
Ideally, a visit to the vets would be best, but a lot of them have a fixation with big needles where pigeons are concerned (roof rat syndrome). |

thanks for your concern, it is a very nasty wound, he was at the vets within 15mins of his arrival here,
my old vet was great, and helped with loads of my wildlife but i now have a new vet, and new regs from the good old RSPCA now means that vets are now able to use the excuse of quoting RSPCA guide lines which boils down to, no treatment for wildlife but a eagerness to put to sleep!!!! anyway he has had a broad spectrum jab and thats all, the wing is pretty smashed, but he has been thro enough tonight, so i am just going to let him rest, the break is futher down his wing, not at shoulder level so i dont yet know if strapping will do any good but yes i agree they are very special birds, |

hey hilary just had another look at the photo, which i took earlier today just after his return from the vet, he is holding it up a lot more than in that photo and he has had a drink, they are such strong birds, so if he continues to hold it close he maybe ok
